Who it's for

Who it's for

  • People who want one honest annual review, not just a list of unmet resolutions
  • Anyone who wants a yearly theme to actually cascade into quarters and months, not sit unused
  • People who like logging small wins as they happen instead of trying to remember them in December
  • Anyone doing a quarterly check-in ritual who wants Pace, not just a percentage

What's inside

What's inside

Four databases that nest

Year Themes hold Quarterly Goals, Quarterly Goals hold Monthly Focus, and Monthly Focus holds Wins & Highlights. Open any Year or Quarter page to see everything under it in one place.

Progress, Pace and Status, computed

None of these are typed by hand. They're computed from which Monthly Focus rows you've checked Done and how far into the quarter or year you already are.

Needs review, so a quarter doesn't slip by

Quarterly Goals flags anything whose quarter has already ended but hasn't been marked Reviewed yet, the cue to open the built-in quarterly check-in.

Wins logged as they happen

Log a Win the moment it happens, even a small one. Wins & Highlights rolls up onto its Month automatically, so your year-end review starts already half-written.

Sentence-stem reflection prompts

Looking back and Looking forward on each Year, and Intention on each Quarter, are written as sentence stems to finish, not blank text boxes to stare at.

How it works

How it works

Four databases nest inside each other: Year Themes hold Quarterly Goals, Quarterly Goals hold Monthly Focus, and Monthly Focus holds Wins & Highlights. Progress rolls up two tiers, a Quarter's Progress is computed from its linked Monthly Focus rows, and a Year's Progress is the average of its Quarterly Goals' own Progress, so a Year's percentage reflects real work logged underneath it, never a number typed in directly.

How to use

  1. 01

Everything nests: Year Themes → Quarterly Goals (linked to a Year) → Monthly Focus (linked to a Quarter) → Wins & Highlights (linked to a Month) — open any Year or Quarter page to see everything under it in one place.

  2. 02

Progress, Pace and Status are never typed by hand — they're computed from which Monthly Focus rows you've checked Done, and how far into the quarter or year you already are.

  3. 03

A month, win, or new quarter added from a quick-add button or a New ▾ template starts unlinked on purpose — check Needs linking on Monthly Focus, Wins & Highlights, or a new Quarterly Goal, and connect it to the right Year, Quarter or Month.

  4. 04

Needs review on Quarterly Goals catches anything whose quarter has already ended but hasn't been marked Reviewed yet — that's your cue to open the quarterly check-in below.

  5. 05

Log a Win the moment it happens, even a small one — Wins & Highlights rolls up onto its Month automatically, so your year-end review starts already half-written.

  6. 06

Pair this with Goals & OKRs for granular key-results tracking, or Weekly Planner for how each week fits into the month.

Setup

  3. 03

  4. 04

Log Wins as they happen, and delete the 🧪 sample rows once you're set up.

§ FAQ

FAQ

How do I do an annual review in Notion?

Structure it in tiers, a Year, its Quarters, and the Months inside each Quarter, so reflection prompts and progress numbers have somewhere real to live. This template ships that nesting already built, with sentence-stem prompts (Looking back, Looking forward, Intention) instead of a blank page.

Does Notion have a yearly planner template?

Not a built-in one. A yearly planner has to be built or duplicated from linked databases. This template chains Year Themes, Quarterly Goals, Monthly Focus and Wins & Highlights together, with Progress and Pace computed automatically at every level.

Is there a free Notion yearly planner?

This exact Annual Review & Year Planner isn't a free Lite template on its own, it's part of the $47 Templitize Bundle alongside 49 other templates. It does still run on Notion's Free plan with no paid Notion upgrade needed.

Can Notion connect yearly goals to monthly focus?

Yes, through relations, not a native feature. This template links Quarterly Goals to their Year and Monthly Focus to its Quarter, so a Year's Progress is a real rollup of the Quarters underneath it, not a number you maintain by hand.

Does this template plan multiple years at once, like a 5-year plan?

No, honestly it doesn't. This is a single-year system: one Year Theme cascades into that year's Quarters and Months. If you're after a 5- or 10-year plan, this template doesn't cover that horizon, it's built for one year done well, not a multi-year roadmap.
