Notion Learning Templates
These four cover different kinds of thinking: Second Brain (PKM) is for everything you're working on and referencing across projects and areas, Reading List & Book Notes is specifically for books, Course & Learning Tracker is specifically for formal courses and their assignments, and Daily Journal is for how each day actually felt, not what you learned from it.
Second Brain is the widest of the four: Areas, Resources and Projects hold anything you're tracking, with Tasks and Notes filed against them. A Project's Progress, Next due and Health compute themselves from its own Tasks, and that Progress rolls up a further hop into its Area, nothing typed in by hand at either step. Reading List and Course Tracker are narrower and more specific: Reading List tracks Author, Genre and Highlights per book with a live reading pace, while Course Tracker tracks Modules and Assignments weighted into a live grade per course. Daily Journal doesn't track progress toward anything; it's Prompts and Entries, with a streak that builds once two days land back-to-back.
Start with Second Brain if you want one system for notes and projects generally; it's the biggest build of the four and works best once you're ready to use Areas, Resources and Projects as real categories, not a junk drawer. Reading List & Book Notes and Course Tracker are narrower and faster to set up if books or classes specifically are what you're trying to organize. Daily Journal is the simplest starting point of the four if you just want a daily habit of writing something down.

§ FAQ
FAQ
What Notion templates help with learning and reading?
Second Brain (PKM) for general notes and projects, Reading List & Book Notes for books specifically, Course & Learning Tracker for formal courses and assignments, and Daily Journal for a daily reflection habit.
Does Notion have a second brain template?
Yes. Second Brain files Tasks and Notes against Areas, Resources and Projects, with Progress, Next due and Health rolling up automatically from a single checked box to a picture of what's on track and what's stalled.
What is the PARA method in Notion?
PARA groups everything you keep into Projects, Areas, Resources and Archive. Second Brain mirrors the first three as real linked databases, Areas, Resources and Projects, plus Tasks and Notes that file against them. It doesn't have a separate Archive database; it's the practical shape of PARA inside Notion, not a strict textbook build.
Is there a free Notion second brain template?
No. Second Brain isn't one of the five free Lite templates (Habit Tracker, Weekly Planner, Bills & Due Dates, Reading List & Book Notes and Client CRM); it's only in the full $47 bundle. Reading List & Book Notes does have a free Lite version, if books specifically are what you're after.
Is Notion good for journaling?
As far as the structure goes, yes: Daily Journal gives you Prompts and Entries with a streak that tracks itself. Whether it's the right place for private writing depends on your own comfort keeping personal entries in Notion; the template itself doesn't add any special privacy or encryption beyond Notion's own sharing settings.
